Austrian Airlines Marks 65 Years Flying to Budapest

Budapest Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network, is celebrating a major aviation milestone as Austrian Airlines marks 65 years of continuous service between Vienna and Budapest on August 8. The carrier began flying to Hungary in 1960 and has since become a key link between Central Europe and global destinations.
During the peak summer season, Austrian operates up to 21 weekly flights on the 45-minute route, with 18–21 per week in winter, offering around 212,000 seats annually from Budapest. More than 90% of passengers are transfer travelers, underscoring Vienna’s role as a vital hub. From Budapest, Austrian connects travelers to European cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Prague, Sofia, and Venice, as well as long-haul gateways including New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Los Angeles (LAX), Bangkok (BKK), and Tokyo (NRT).
Markus Klaushofer, CCO of Budapest Airport, said: “We are incredibly proud to celebrate 65 years of partnership with Austrian Airlines. Their strong global network and commitment to the Budapest–Vienna route have greatly enhanced connectivity for Hungarian passengers.”
Annette Mann, CEO of Austrian Airlines, added: “Anniversary flights are always special – and a chance to thank our Budapest team for decades of professional cooperation. This milestone reflects a relationship built on trust, performance, and a shared passion for our customers.”
