United Airlines Opens Polaris Lounge in Houston

United Airlines announced a soft opening of its fourth Polaris Lounge, this one at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.  The lounge will open to the public on Friday.

The Chicago-based airline opened its second Polaris Lounge, that one at San Francisco International Airport, on April 30, and its third, at Newark Liberty International, on May 31.

Like other Polaris Lounges, this one is open only to Polaris-ticketed customers. United says that the Houston lounge’s décor and menu is “a reflection of the city,” adding it was designed to feel like a boutique hotel. Artwork by two Houstonian artists – Shane Tolbert and Terrell James – is on display throughout the lounge.

The menu in Houston will include a Texas breakfast skillet, Cajun andouille sausage and chicken étouffée, Argentinean roasted chimichurri chicken, and the United Polaris Burger, which is available at all United Polaris lounges.

The Polaris Lounge is intended to bridge the in-lounge and in-flight experiences. Passengers are invited to sit down for a complete dinner prior to the flight in order to maximize sleep time once on board.

The lounge features 191 seats, 324 electric outlets, and 264 USB ports. Seating ranges from the very private, where the seats resemble an international first-class suite, to more open banquettes and a dining area with tables and chairs. There are two private daybeds equipped with Saks Fifth Avenue bedding, and six shower suites featuring Cowshed Spa products.

The Premium bar will serve a wide assortment of drinks that may be ordered from any location in the lounge, including Caliente on the Rocks, which combines Casamigos Tequila, orange juice and a homemade sour mix, garnished with a jalapeño for an extra kick, according to United.
