Avianca resumes int’l flights from three hub countries

Avianca Airlines (AV, Bogotá) resumed international flights from San Salvador Int’l, in El Salvador, and Managua, in Nicaragua, on September 19, 2020, and from Medellín José Maria Córdova, Colombia, on September 28, 2020. The airline plans to add international flights from Bogotá on October 1, 2020.  On October 1, 2020, the airline will add regional services from Bogotá to Guayaquil, Quito Int’l, and Sao Paulo Guarulhos, as well as to México City Int’l, New York, and Miami. Starting on October 16, Avianca Airlines will also connect Colombia with Cancún, Guatemala City, La Paz El Alto, Punta Cana, Rio de Janeiro Int’l, Santa Cruz Viru Viru, Santiago de Chile Int’l, San Salvador, Santo Domingo Las Américas, and Washington. While most of the carrier’s international flights will be operated with narrowbody A319-100s and A320-200s, Avianca Airlines also plans to use B787-8s for the most in-demand services. Colombia, El Salvador, and Nicaragua reopened its borders to all passengers with a negative PCR test not older than 96 hours for Colombia and 72 hours for the other two countries. Avianca Airlines also said that it received authorisation from the Colombian authorities to double its domestic network starting on October 1. It will resume services from Bogotá to 11 destinations within the country, namely Armenia, Corozal Las Brujas, Barrancabermeja, El Yopal, Florencia, Ibagué, Manizales, Neiva, Popayán, Riohacha, and Villavicencio. At this moment, Avianca Airlines serves 10 domestic destinations out of the capital and said it sees the most demand for flights to Medellin, Bucaramanga, Cali, and Cartagena de Indias.
