Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly said he expects the airline to acquire more aircraft to resume flights that were suspended or curtailed while maintaining the new routes to smaller cities and leisure destinations to take advantage of shifting demand and idle planes. As demand for travel continues to recover, Kelly also looks forward to the industry’s next goal, saying, “the big challenge is to address climate, and our industry has a goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, which is very ambitious, but it is an achievable goal. It’s going to have to be a partnership between the airline industry, the aerospace industry and governments around the world.”
