US’s Avelo Airlines outlines New Haven, CT network plans
Avelo Airlines (XP, Burbank) will focus on Florida for its forthcoming base at New Haven airport in Connecticut.
The low-cost carrier said in a statement that effective November 3, it would connect New Haven to the following destinations in Florida:
- Orlando Int’l (5x weekly starting on November 3),
- Fort Lauderdale Int’l (5x weekly starting on November 5),
- Tampa Int’l (3x weekly starting on November 8), and
- Fort Myers Southwest Florida (2x weekly starting on November 11).
“Connecticut residents told us they want more convenient and affordable options for flying to Florida and we listened. These four popular sun-soaked destinations are an ideal winter retreat. The refreshingly simple and smooth HVN small-airport experience will ensure our Customers depart relaxed and ready for some fun in the sun,” Chairman and Chief Executive Andrew Levy said.
Avelo has committed to invest USD1.2 million to help upgrade and modernise facilities at New Haven airport. The Connecticutian city is located around 100 kilometres northeast of New York and is best known as the site of Yale University. The only carrier that offers scheduled flights to New Haven at this time is American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth), which deploys an E175 operated by Republic Airways on a 5x weekly service to Philadelphia Int’l. All other demand is largely routed through New York JFK and New York La Guardia airports.
Avelo plans to base a single 147-seat B737-700 out of New Haven. The carrier recently inducted its first unit of the type and plans to take a further two shortly. Its fleet also comprises three B737-800s, which operate out of Avelo’s maiden base at Burbank, CA.
