Delta Air Lines Extends eCredits Booking Expiration Through 2023

Delta Air Lines has just re-upped its commitment to flexibility amid the pandemic by extending the expiration dates for all travel vouchers. On Wednesday, the carrier made customers’ existing eCredits valid for rebooking through December 31, 2023, on flights booked throughout 2024.

Customers can book Delta flights with more confidence knowing that they’ll be able to rebook if the need arises, as travel conditions continue to fluctuate due to COVID-19. New tickets purchased any time this year will also be eligible for rebooking through year-end 2023 for travel throughout 2024.

Potential flyers also no longer need to worry about paying extra to rebook, as Delta eliminated its change fees in 2020 for most domestic and international tickets. This past summer, the airline also made stand-by and same-day trip changes free for customers, expanding its pandemic-era flexibility. However, travelers who want to rebook on a flight that’s more expensive than their original one will still need to pay the difference in cost.

“We want to ensure our customers enjoy peace of mind when booking or rebooking their Delta trips this year,” said Allison Ausband, Delta Air Lines’ Chief Customer Experience Officer, in a statement. “This leading extension provides more time for customers to use their travel credits, so they can book with complete confidence that Delta has their back even when moments arise out of their control.”

According to Travel + Leisure, other major U.S. airlines have also expanded COVID-era flexibility for customers. Last year, United and American Airlines extended the validity of electronic certificates and flight credits set to expire by the end of 2021 through year-end 2022. Both carriers also got rid of their cancellation and change fees, with United vowing to do so permanently. Southwest Airlines already applies no flight cancellation or change fees and will refund ‘Anytime’ or ‘Business Select’ fares and issue future flight credits for canceled ‘Wanna Get Away’ tickets.

Delta said in its announcement that it would be sending further details to impacted customers subsequently and that the new expiration dates may not yet be reflected on their eCredits documentation, pending a system update.
