EgyptAir Holding is in discussions concerning the replacement of its ten older widebody jets, four A330-300s and six B777-300(ER)s, Chief Executive Amr Abu Elenin told African Aerospace magazine.

Elenin would not go into any details concerning the renewal programme and neither identified potential replacement types nor the timeline for the process.

The ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows the four A330-300s operated by EgyptAir (MS, Cairo Int’l) are 10.8 years old on average, while the six B777-300(ER)s are 11.4 years old on average. The airline also has two A330-200s (16.4 years old on average), but they have remained in storage since March 2020 and are, in practice, retired. According to the ch-aviation fleets ownership module, EgyptAir owns the A330s but leases the B777s from GECAS.

The carrier’s new-generation widebody fleet currently comprises six B787-9s. A further two units of the type are scheduled to deliver by February 2023.

Recently, Egyptian lawmakers resolved to remove VAT on aircraft leases, thus making it less costly for carriers to source aircraft from lessors.
