Crypto or digital currency has entered the mainstream and while travelers can still get as far as they wish with good old-fashioned cash, checks and card payments the number of destinations around the world embracing the crypto movement is fast-growing. But some are leading the movement. The team at business aviation company Fast Private Jet recently set out to discover which destinations are the best when it comes to accommodating crypto-equipped travelers right now, ranking America’s biggest cities based on which offer the most venues accepting digital currency payments, whether attractions, hotels, restaurants, shops, nightlife and sporting venues or transportation services.
10. Houston, Texas
Houston rounds out the top 10 best cities in America for bitcoin-savvy travelers in 2022. While it still has some ways to go to become the most crypto-friendly city in Texas, Houston offers as many as seven shopping destinations for travelers looking to pay with cryptocurrency. Houston is also home to the second-most crypto ATMs of any U.S. city at 1,136.
9. Phoenix, Arizona
Even further out West, the Valley of the Sun tops Houston with an impressive 16 (more than twice as many) shopping venues accepting crypto at the moment as well as four cafes and or food stops.
8. Washington, DC
The nation’s capital is one of the most crypto-friendly destinations on the East Coast with a trio of restaurants and a pair of sports venues accepting cryptocurrency at the moment. By comparison to the cities at the top of the list, Washington, D.C. has ways to go, however.
7. Denver, Colorado
With eight crypto-friendly shops and an additional eight bitcoin-accommodating cafes or food venues, Denver ranks as the seventh-most friendly U.S. city for travelers looking to pay with digital currency in 2022.
6. Dallas, Texas
Dallas is home to five shops and a pair of restaurants that are currently accepting payment in the form of crypto. While it may not seem like a lot, few cities across the country can compete.
5. San Diego, California
Boasting 10 shops, 10 restaurants and a pair of attractions accepting cryptocurrency at the moment, California’s most entertaining city, San Diego is unquestionably among the best for travelers looking to spend their digital earnings by the coast.
4. Austin, Texas
The top city in Texas for crypto travelers is the state capital of Austin. The Live Music Capital of the World boasts a stellar 38 cafe/food venues accepting digital currency, which is by far the most of any city in the top 10. Austin’s two crypto-friendly transportation services are also the most of any city in the top 10.
3. San Francisco, California
Home to dozens of bitcoin ATMs, San Francisco offers visitors a wide range of crypto-friendly stops, including as many as 20 shops, nine restaurants, two nightlife venues and two other lodging options.
2. Los Angeles, California
In the battle for California, Los Angeles unsurprisingly comes out on top. After all, L.A. is home to one of the first restaurants to accept crypto payments in the U.S. back as early as 2013 and features 1,862 crypto ATMs, which is by far the most in the country. What’s more, the city’s iconic Staples Center was recently renamed Crypto.com Arena.
1. New York, New York
New York City easily tops the list of the most crypto-friendly destinations that travelers can visit in the U.S. More and more venues throughout the five boroughs have begun accepting crypto payment, including 31 shops, 19 restaurants, five nightlife venues, two sporting venues, a pair of attractions and as many as three accommodations, according to Fast Private Jet’s research.
