STR: April U.S. Hotel Rates Push Higher

April U.S. hotel performance continued its rally from an early 2022 slump, according to hospitality research firm STR, and the average daily rate reached another record high.

The overall April U.S. ADR was $149.90, up 14 percent from April 2019 levels and up from $146.61 in March 2022. The April ADR was a record high, according to STR, and when adjusted for inflation, it’s 0.7 percent above the 2019 figure.

April U.S. occupancy was 65.5 percent, down 3.3 percent from April 2019 and up from 64 percent in March 2022. That occupancy figure was the highest monthly level since July 2021, according to STR, as was the April revenue per available room figure of $98.20. RevPAR was up 10.2 percent from April 2019.

STR indicated its top 25 U.S. markets recorded higher occupancy and rates than the rest of the country, a trend it attributed to “continued improvement in business travel and groups.”

Miami recorded the highest occupancy among STR’s top 25 markets at 80.9 percent, down 0.2 percent from April 2019. Minneapolis reported the lowest occupancy at 52.5 percent, which was down 22.4 percent from 2019.
