A jury in London has convicted the chairman of failed Caribbean hotel and resort developer Harlequin Group of bilking more than 8,000 British investors out of $274 million. David Ames, 70, had pleaded not guilty to charges based on deposits Harlequin collected for unbuilt properties, a deal in which 99% of investors allegedly received no return as the company fell into bankruptcy.
