All Nippon Airways (ANA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese conglomerate ITOCHU Corporation and Wyoming-based Raven SR Inc to source sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) made from different types of waste.

Raven SR owns patented Steam/CO2 Reforming technology to turn green, municipal and solid waste into sustainable fuels and it is planning to start SAF production in 2025 at a plant in California, with the expectation to reach a production of 200,000 tons per year by 2034.

All Nippon Airways has already been collaborating with Finnish SAF producer Neste for some time. The two companies partnered to introduce SAF to Japan back in 2020 and the airline has since been using it on domestic flights. ANA’s goal is to fly with fuel that contains at least 10% of SAF in the blend by 2030.
