Air Algérie Confirm Order for Eight Boeing 737-9 Jets and 737-800BCF Converted Freighters
Boeing and Air Algérie have officially announced their agreement for the purchase of eight fuel-efficient 737-9 jets at the Paris Air Show. Additionally, Air Algérie has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for two 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters (BCF) to meet the growing cargo demand in the region.
Yacine Benslimane, the general manager of Air Algérie, highlighted that this order aligns with the airline’s fleet expansion strategy and will contribute to the development of their fleet. Air Algérie currently operates a single-aisle fleet consisting of more than 30 737-500, 737-600, and 737-800 jets. The addition of the 737-9 will allow the airline to accommodate more passengers, thus enhancing profitability within their network. The 737-9, with a capacity to serve 193 passengers in a two-class configuration and a range of 3,300 nautical miles, is well-suited for Air Algérie’s regional operations.
Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, emphasized the compatibility of the 737-9 with Air Algérie’s existing fleet, providing added capacity and flexibility. He also highlighted the capabilities of the highly reliable 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters, which will enable Air Algérie to tap into the growing cargo opportunities and expand their business beyond passenger operations.
The order for the 737-9 jets had not been previously identified on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website.
