American Airlines Commits $125 Million Investment for JFK Terminal 8 Makeover
American Airlines has announced that it will spend $125 million to redevelop Terminal 8 at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, as part of its commitment to enhance its operations and customer experience at the busy hub.
The project, which is expected to be completed by 2025, will include adding a Great Hall to the terminal, which will serve as a central gathering place for travelers and offer a variety of dining, shopping and entertainment options. The project will also feature at least 60 new restaurants and stores, as well as upgraded amenities and facilities, such as check-in kiosks, baggage systems, security checkpoints and lounges.
The project is part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s JFK Redevelopment Program, which aims to transform the airport into a modern, world-class facility that can accommodate the growing demand for air travel. The program involves expanding and renovating several terminals, improving roadways and parking, adding new air train stations and creating more open space and greenery.
“American Airlines is proud to be a part of the JFK Redevelopment Program and to invest in the future of Terminal 8,” said Jim Moses, vice president of Northeast hubs at American Airlines. “We are committed to providing our customers with a seamless and enjoyable travel experience at JFK, and we look forward to unveiling our new and improved terminal in the coming years.”
Rick Cotton, executive director of the Port Authority, welcomed American Airlines’ announcement and praised its partnership with the agency. “This is another tremendous milestone in our extensive JFK Redevelopment Program, which will create thousands of jobs, spur economic activity and deliver a world-class airport for the 21st century,” he said.
