Gulfstream Announces Successful First Flight of Second G800 Test Aircraft

Gulfstream, the leading private jet aviation firm, has reached a significant milestone with the successful completion of the first flight of its second G800 test aircraft. The company proudly shared this achievement on July 17, 2023. During the test flight, the G800 took to the skies for an impressive three hours and 26 minutes, reaching a top speed of Mach 0.935.

The momentous flight departed from Gulfstream’s headquarters in Savannah on July 15, 2023, precisely at 9:27 am local time. Notably, the aircraft utilized a sustainable aviation fuel blend of 30/70 for this particular flight, showcasing Gulfstream’s commitment to environmentally friendly aviation practices.

This successful flight marks a crucial step in the G800’s journey towards certification and eventual delivery to customers. According to Mark Burns, the president of Gulfstream, the G800 will set a new standard in the industry by offering the longest range to customers worldwide, coupled with the unmatched cabin comfort and quality that Gulfstream is renowned for. This combination has led to strong demand for the aircraft’s capabilities.

The second G800 flight test aircraft is specially dedicated to testing environmental control systems, avionics, and flight controls. Building upon the accomplishments of the first G800 flight test article, which had already undergone over 1,600 test points, this latest flight represents a continuation of Gulfstream’s commitment to innovation and advancement.

Mark Burns also emphasized the advantage gained from the commonality between the G800 and the ongoing Gulfstream G700 flight test program. This design philosophy behind their next-generation fleet ensures that the G800 benefits from the progress made in the G700 program, enhancing efficiency and reliability for customers who have already witnessed the exceptional performance of these aircraft.

It’s worth noting that the G800’s journey began with its first test flight on June 28, 2022, where it successfully completed a two-hour flight. Additionally, the aircraft made its continental debut in Geneva during the 2023 European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE2023) held in May.

With its impressive range capabilities, the G800 can fly 8,000 nautical miles (14,816 kilometers) at Mach 0.85 and 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 kilometers) at Mach 0.90, solidifying its position as a top choice for long-haul private jet travel.
