Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) experienced a ground stop as a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Burbank had to be diverted due to a potential mechanical issue. The incident occurred on Friday, July 21, 2023, when the Boeing 737 safely landed at LAX. Emergency vehicles, including several fire trucks, quickly surrounded the aircraft on the tarmac.

A video of the incident, lasting 18 minutes, was shared online, capturing airport officials gathered around the Southwest aircraft as various vehicles came and went.

An LAX spokesperson stated, “Southwest Flight 1397 landed safely at runway 24L. There was a mechanical issue and a brief ground stop that was already lifted,” as reported by Mail Online.

The affected flight was en route from Sacramento, California, to Burbank when the diversion to LAX occurred. Southwest Airlines confirmed the situation, explaining, “Flight 1397 from Sacramento to Burbank diverted to LAX this afternoon because of a potential mechanical issue with the aircraft. The aircraft landed safely, and we are working with our customers to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible.”

To ensure passenger safety, the original aircraft is now out of service and will undergo a comprehensive maintenance review.
