Air Canada, the largest airline in Canada, announced that it will equip 95 more aircraft with upgraded satellite internet technology, in partnership with Intelsat, a global leader in satellite communications. The upgrade will enhance the in-flight connectivity and entertainment experience for customers, as well as enable operational efficiencies for the airline.

The upgrade will involve installing Intelsat’s 2Ku system, which uses high-throughput satellites to deliver fast and reliable internet access to aircraft. The system can support streaming, browsing, gaming, and other online activities, as well as provide live TV and on-demand content. The system can also support cockpit communications, flight tracking, and crew services.

The upgrade will cover 95 narrow-body aircraft, including Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s, which operate on domestic and transborder routes. Air Canada already has Intelsat’s 2Ku system installed on 35 wide-body aircraft, including Boeing 777s and Airbus A330s, which operate on international routes. The upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

Mark Nasr, Air Canada’s executive vice president of marketing and digital, said that the upgrade was part of the airline’s commitment to customer satisfaction and innovation. He said that Intelsat was a trusted partner that provided proven technology, an extensible platform and network, and the right vision for the future of in-flight connectivity.

Steve Spengler, Intelsat’s chief executive officer, said that he was proud to expand the partnership with Air Canada and to deliver a superior in-flight experience to their customers. He said that Intelsat’s 2Ku system was the best-in-class solution for the aviation industry, offering high performance, reliability, and scalability.
