Spirit Airlines Expands Network with Daily Flights from San Antonio to Newark

In a recent announcement, Spirit Airlines, America’s foremost ultra-low-cost carrier, unveiled its plans to introduce daily nonstop services connecting San Antonio International Airport (SAT) with Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Slated to begin on April 5, 2024, this new route establishes a crucial link between San Antonio, fondly known as the Alamo City, and the bustling New York City metropolitan region. Additionally, travelers will enjoy seamless access to various other destinations scattered across the Northeast and further.

Interestingly, this Newark addition will be the sixth feather in Spirit’s cap at SAT. The airline embarked on its journey at SAT in November 2022, with initial services to eminent destinations like Orlando and Las Vegas. Keeping pace with its expansion trajectory, Spirit subsequently incorporated routes to Baltimore, Fort Lauderdale, and Los Angeles, thereby presenting San Antonio passengers with a plethora of choices coupled with competitive fares.

The SAT-EWR route, currently dominated by United Airlines with a twice-daily frequency, will now witness fierce competition from Spirit. The schedule sees Spirit’s flight taking off from SAT at 3:02 p.m., touching down at EWR at 7:52 p.m. local time. In the reverse direction, the flight will ascend from EWR at 11:07 a.m., making its way to SAT by 2:17 p.m. local time.

John Kirby, Spirit’s Vice President of Network Planning, exuded enthusiasm about this novel addition, emphasizing the opportunity it offers for cost-effective explorations of the Garden State and rendezvous in Northern New Jersey and New York City. Reflecting on Spirit’s journey so far, Kirby expressed gratitude towards the San Antonio community and partners.
