South Korea’s hybrid carrier, Air Premia, primarily catering to small businesses, visiting friends and relatives, and millennials, is on a quest to make its mark in the aviation world. The airline recently unveiled plans to bolster its Boeing 787-9 fleet, intending to triple its count from five to a whopping 15 by 2027.

Having kicked off its international service in July 2022, Air Premia is ambitious about amplifying its footprint across Asia, Europe, and North America. Its goal is clear: provide passengers with flights that are both budget-friendly and hassle-free.

Ryan Park, Air Premia’s Strategy Planning Manager, while addressing the Routes World in Istanbul, revealed the airline’s roadmap. Air Premia has set its sights on adding at least two aircraft to its arsenal every year, reaching its target by 2027. However, securing more 787-9s is no walk in the park. Given the aircraft’s soaring demand, Park acknowledged the ongoing discussions with leading global lessors to ensure timely procurement.

Boasting a Robust Current Fleet
As of now, Air Premia’s fleet comprises five 787-9s. Each aircraft, sporting a dual-class configuration, can accommodate 309 passengers – 56 in premium economy and the rest in economy. With a staggering payload of 102 tons, these aircraft are engineered to cover 4,970 nautical miles (equivalent to 9,200 km) sans refueling. The airline is utilizing this fleet to cater to an array of destinations, including but not limited to Bangkok, Frankfurt, Los Angeles, and Tokyo Narita.

Air Premia has a strategic growth plan for the coming year. While it aims to ramp up frequencies to Los Angeles and Newark, it’s also gearing up to inaugurate fresh routes to sought-after destinations like Seattle, Paris CDG, and Rome. Park emphasizes the strategic importance of the US and Europe, citing robust demand and growth potential. The airline is optimistic about leveraging the potential opportunities arising from Korean Air’s acquisition of Asiana Airlines, especially concerning traffic rights and slots.

Being a proud member of the Star Alliance, Air Premia resonates with the alliance’s vision of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The collaborative spirit of the alliance aids members like Air Premia in driving down their environmental footprint, all while elevating the passenger experience.
