Zambia Airways Updates Aircraft Registration to 9J-ZAD for Administrative Reasons

In a recent development, Zambia Airways has officially re-registered its first B737-800, previously known as 9J-HHZ (msn 40961), to the new designation 9J-ZAD. The airline has officially confirmed this administrative change, shedding light on the reasons behind the modification.

The management of Zambia Airways clarified that the re-registration was undertaken for administrative purposes. While reports from The Zambian Observer and Zambian Post suggested a connection between the previous registration (9J-HHZ) and the initials of the country’s current president, Hakainde Hichilema, airline officials did not confirm this speculation. The Zambian Civil Aviation Authority, responsible for overseeing such matters, was not immediately available for comment.

The B737-800, currently operated by Zambia Airways, is on lease from Ethiopian Airlines, which holds a minority stake in the Zambian government’s joint-venture national carrier. The majority stake is under the ownership of the state-owned Industrial Development Corporation. Notably, the aircraft is actively servicing the route between Lusaka, the Zambian capital, and Johannesburg O.R. Tambo in South Africa, as indicated by ADS-B data.

As Zambia Airways continues to navigate through administrative changes, the airline remains focused on its operational commitments. Stay tuned for further updates on Zambia Airways and its endeavors within the dynamic aviation landscape.
