Air Tanzania (TC, Dar es Salaam) has taken delivery of its inaugural B737-9, marking a significant milestone as the first operator of this aircraft type in Africa.

The newly delivered 5H-TCP (msn 67790) made its journey from Seattle Boeing Field to Dar es Salaam, stopping at San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin and Dakar Blaise Diagne International airports between September 30 and October 3, 2023. The B737-9, ordered directly by the Tanzanian government from Boeing, is the first of two aircraft and is owned by TGF – Tanzania Government Flight. With a seating capacity of up to 181 passengers, the carrier plans to leverage the B737-9’s enhanced capabilities for its operations.

Air Tanzania’s fleet now includes five A220-300s, one B767-300F, two B787-8s, one DHC-8-Q300, and five DHC-8-Q400s. The airline has one additional B787-8 on order from Boeing, further strengthening its position in the regional and international aviation market.

This strategic acquisition of the B737-9 reinforces Air Tanzania’s commitment to modernizing its fleet, providing improved services, and contributing to the growth of air travel connectivity within Africa. As the first African operator of the B737-9, Air Tanzania sets a precedent for the adoption of advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft across the continent.
