SAS Scandinavian Airlines to Bid Farewell to Last 737 in Mid-4Q23
SAS Scandinavian Airlines has announced plans to retire its final B737-700 on November 19, marking the completion of its transition to an all-Airbus narrowbody fleet. The airline will organize a special farewell flight from Stockholm Arlanda to Oslo Gardermoen for the occasion, with the last flight operated by LN-RRB (msn 32276).
SAS currently operates four B737-700s, all based in Oslo. The remaining four active aircraft have an average age of 17.7 years and are owned by the airline. SAS has gradually phased out its B737-700s, downsizing the fleet from thirty aircraft in 2015.
The carrier previously retired its B737-400s and B737-500s in 2013, followed by the B737-600s in 2019 and B737-800s earlier in 2023. SAS will continue to own five B737-800s, with four dry-leased to Jet2 in the United Kingdom.
SAS’s new-generation narrowbody fleet consists of sixty-one A320-200Ns, including 25 operated by SAS Connect, and has eighteen more on order. The airline also operates three A321-200NX aircraft. The retirement of the B737-700 aligns with SAS’s strategy to modernize and streamline its fleet for improved operational efficiency.
