Boeing is reportedly in advanced discussions to finalize a significant order of approximately 150 Boeing 737 Max narrowbody aircraft with Akasa Air, India’s rising budget airline. This development, as reported by Reuters citing informed sources, comes at a time when India’s aviation sector is experiencing a sharp uptick in demand for air travel.

The potential deal, which could mark a major milestone for both Boeing and Akasa Air, is expected to be announced during Wings India. This event, recognized as the country’s premier civil aviation conference, is set to take place from January 18th to 21st. The announcement at such a prominent event underscores the importance of this agreement in the aviation industry, particularly within the rapidly growing Indian market.

As of December 2023, Akasa Air operates a fleet of 22 brand-new Boeing 737-8 and 737-8 Max 200 aircraft powered by the highly fuel-efficient CFM LEAP-1B engine, and has 2 737-8, plus 52 737-8 Max 200 aircraft on order. Every airplane features the Boeing Sky Interior, highlighted by modern sculpted sidewalls, window reveals and LED lighting that enhancess cabin experience.

Boeing’s 737 Max, the cornerstone of the American aviation behemoth’s fleet, has been a bestseller in the global market. As of the end of November, Boeing reported a significant backlog, with 4,543 unfilled orders for the 737 Max. This potential order from Akasa Air not only reinforces the 737 Max’s position in the market but also signals a strengthening of Boeing’s presence in the burgeoning Indian aviation sector.
