Romanian airline Hello Jets (H3, Bucharest Henri Coanda) is setting its sights on the United States as it applies for a Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP) along with an exemption that would enable it to initiate scheduled and charter flights, transporting passengers, cargo, and mail between Romania and the U.S. The move signifies a significant step for Hello Jets as it eyes international expansion beyond European borders.

While the airline has kept details of its intended U.S. operations under wraps, the application to the U.S. Department of Transportation marks a pivotal development in its strategy to diversify and extend its reach into the lucrative U.S. market. This venture into transatlantic flights could potentially open new avenues for growth and customer base expansion for the ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) and charter service provider.

Currently, Hello Jets operates a compact fleet that includes one Boeing 737-700, stationed at Bucharest Baneasa, and one Boeing 737-800, which is presently engaged in operations with SmartLynx Airlines (6Y, Riga). The airline’s fleet dynamics are evolving, with the recent return of another B737-800 poised for transfer to Denmark’s Airseven. Additionally, Hello Jets is on the lookout for further fleet expansion, having issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for another narrowbody aircraft, signaling its commitment to growth and operational scalability.

Despite inquiries, Hello Jets has remained silent on specifics regarding its U.S. route plans and operational details. The airline’s strategic moves are being closely watched by industry analysts and competitors alike as it embarks on this ambitious expansion. The application for a U.S. Foreign Air Carrier Permit not only highlights Hello Jets’ international ambitions but also reflects the growing interest of European carriers in tapping into the American market, known for its diverse travel demands and competitive landscape.

As the aviation industry continues to recover and adapt in the post-pandemic era, Hello Jets’ venture into the U.S. market is indicative of the carrier’s proactive approach to seizing new opportunities and establishing a presence in key international markets. The outcome of its FACP application and the subsequent impact on its operations and growth trajectory will be closely monitored by stakeholders and industry observers.
