With the Middle Eastern Aviation Market projected to ascend from its 2023 valuation of US$60 billion, anticipating a significant surge by 2030, airports across the globe are gearing up for a monumental rise in air travel. The region, experiencing over 26% growth in air connectivity compared to 2019, is preparing to accommodate an anticipated 1.1 billion passengers by 2040, more than doubling the traffic seen in 2019.

To cater to this booming demand, Middle Eastern airports, numbering over 110, are poised to invest around US$151 billion in expanding their capacities. This rapid development underscores the region’s position as one of the fastest-growing aviation markets worldwide.

In light of these expansions, Dubai is set to host the 23rd edition of the Airport Show in mid-May 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). This premier event, drawing over 150 exhibitors from 20+ countries and 7,500 visitors from over 30 countries, showcases the latest in airport innovation and technology. Co-located with ATC Forum, Airport Security Middle East, and the Global Airport Leaders Forum (GALF), this year’s show promises an impressive assembly of industry leaders and pioneers.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum emphasizes the show’s role in presenting cutting-edge technologies and innovative products essential for enhancing airport operations. The event, supported by leading aviation bodies, aims to address the surging need for airport sustainability, digitalisation, and urban air mobility solutions.

The global airport construction market, currently valued at US$1.14 trillion in 2023, is expected to reach US$1.8 trillion by 2030, reflecting the sector’s dynamic growth. Projects include expansions of Dubai International Airport, Sharjah’s terminal development, and Saudi Arabia’s ambitious plans for King Abdelaziz International Airport and Neom International Airport.

Furthermore, Oman, Lebanon, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, and the Maldives are also embarking on significant airport development projects to accommodate the increasing passenger flow and cement their positions as key aviation hubs.

These expansions, alongside innovative projects in Asia-Pacific and the strategic vision for aviation in the UAE, underscore the pivotal role airports play in shaping the future of global air travel and tourism.
