Malaysia’s My Jet Xpress Airlines Loses Licenses, Signaling Operational Shutdown

The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) has officially revoked the air service license (ASL) of My Jet Xpress Airlines, a Kuala Lumpur-based cargo carrier, following the withdrawal of its air operator’s certificate (AOC) by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). This decision effectively halts the airline’s operations, as confirmed in a MAVCOM notice dated May 16.

This revocation stems from MAVCOM’s adherence to the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015, which mandates the cancellation of an ASL if the holder no longer possesses a valid AOC. “The revocation of the ASL by the Commission is in accordance with subsection 43(3) of the Act, which states that if an air service licensee no longer holds a valid AOC from CAAM, that the ASL issued to them shall be deemed revoked from the date the air service licensee ceases to hold an AOC,” MAVCOM explained in its statement.

Prior to this revocation, My Jet Xpress Airlines was in the midst of significant organizational changes, including a planned merger with Transonic Jet Sdn Bhd. This merger, valued at MYR 50 million (approximately USD 10.7 million), would have seen Transonic, a transportation support company and travel agency, acquire a 90% stake in My Jet Xpress. The deal also included the transfer of operating licenses, which are now compromised by the revocation of the airline’s ASL and AOC.

The ch-aviation fleets module indicates that My Jet Xpress has two aircraft, both Boeing 737-300 models, currently in storage at Johor Bahru. The company, originally established in 1970 and known then as Neptune Air, had been offering cargo services including wet and dry lease options. It underwent significant restructuring in 2018 and rebranded as My Jet Xpress Airlines.

This revocation follows a series of compliance issues, as detailed by MAVCOM. The authority had renewed My Jet’s ASL for 48 months from October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2025, contingent upon adherence to specific operational conditions. However, due to concerns over non-compliance, MAVCOM issued a show-cause letter in July 2023 and subsequently suspended the airline’s ASL until April 30, 2024, which has now culminated in the full revocation of both the ASL and AOC.

This development marks a significant setback for My Jet Xpress Airlines, affecting its operational capabilities and future business prospects within the Malaysian aviation market.
