Seaplane Asia to Acquire 14 Jekta PHA-ZE 100 Aircraft
Seaplane Asia, headquartered in Hong Kong, has finalized an agreement to acquire fourteen Jekta PHA-ZE 100 amphibious aircraft at the Farnborough 2024 Airshow. This acquisition marks a significant step in the company’s expansion plans and commitment to sustainability in aviation.
Swiss manufacturer Jekta is advancing the development of the PHA-ZE 100, a 19-passenger, electric-powered, all-composite amphibious aircraft. Although still under development, the PHA-ZE 100 is expected to receive EASA CS-23 and US FAA FAR-23 certifications. The aircraft will be equipped with ten electric motors powered by batteries or hydrogen fuel cells, offering an initial flight endurance of up to 60 minutes on battery power, with an additional 30-minute reserve.
The PHA-ZE 100 is designed for versatile operations, including coastal waters with waves up to 1.2 meters, lakes, waterways, and runways, thanks to its retractable wheeled landing gear. This capability aligns with Seaplane Asia’s vision for efficient and sustainable short-distance travel.
Dennis Keller, CEO of Seaplane Asia, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition: “We have been closely monitoring various new aircraft developments and are confident that the PHA-ZE 100 stands out as a promising option. Its performance in rougher conditions, reduced operating costs, range, cruising speeds, and modern cabin design were key factors in our decision to partner with Jekta.”
Seaplane Asia is involved in several proposed start-ups across Southeast Asia, including Siam Seaplane (Thailand), Samra Seaplane (Cambodia), Santai Seaplane (Indonesia), and Sagana Seaplane (the Philippines). While these ventures are still in planning stages, Siam Seaplane has already sourced and ferried a Cessna 208EX. Seaplane Asia envisions the Jekta PHA-ZE 100s for a range of uses including short-distance flights, island hopping, airport-to-waterfront transport, sightseeing tours, and yacht transfers.
