Abra Group, the London-based holding company for Avianca Airlines and GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for the acquisition of five A350-900 aircraft. The agreement, announced at the 2024 Farnborough Air Show, signifies a major step in Abra Group’s expansion strategy.

While the specific carrier set to operate these new A350-900s has not been disclosed, the deal includes tentative delivery dates that remain confidential. A spokesperson for Abra Group indicated that these details will be shared at a later date.

Adrian Neuhauser, Chief Executive of Abra Group, highlighted the strategic importance of this acquisition: “This deal will provide better pricing for customers and enhance connectivity between Latin America and Europe. It further establishes Abra as one of the largest and most competitive air transportation groups in the region. The choice of aircraft aligns with our strategic goals and supports our long-term vision.”

Currently, Avianca Airlines operates an all 787-8 fleet consisting of 15 units and retired its A330-200s in 2023. GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes does not operate widebody aircraft, and Wamos Air, which recently joined the Abra Group, specializes in ACMI and charter services with a fleet of five A330-200s and seven A330-300s.

This MoU for the A350-900s reflects Abra Group’s commitment to expanding its fleet and enhancing its service capabilities in the global aviation market.
