American Airlines Launches New Route to Copenhagen
Earlier this month, American Airlines marked a significant milestone with the launch of its inaugural flight from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Copenhagen Airport (CPH). The buzz around the new route was unmistakable, with festive decorations, including a balloon arch adorned with Danish flags, and Danish pastries served amidst lively Danish hip-hop tunes.
The new Copenhagen service reestablishes American Airlines’ presence in the Nordics, a region it hasn’t served since the cessation of its Reykjavík, Iceland route in 2019. José Freig, Vice President of International Operations at American Airlines, highlighted the importance of this new service in a statement to Afar, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to expanding its European network.
Connecting Philadelphia to Copenhagen and Beyond
On June 6, passengers embarked on American Airlines’ new transatlantic journey, which was part of the carrier’s 2024 expansion plans for European destinations. This growth was made possible by the arrival of additional Boeing aircraft, overcoming earlier delivery delays. The new flight not only rejuvenates American’s European offerings but also enhances connectivity across North America, providing more single connections to Copenhagen than any other airline, as noted by Brian Znotins, Senior Vice President of Network Planning.
The Philadelphia-Copenhagen route connects to over 85 destinations across North America, making it a valuable addition to American Airlines’ network. This summer, American has also introduced seasonal services to Naples, Italy, and Nice, France, from Philadelphia. These routes are operated on Boeing 787-9 aircraft and are scheduled to run through the fall, with flights to Copenhagen and Nice extending until October 6 and to Naples until October 26. The future of these routes beyond 2024 remains to be confirmed.
Enhancements to Premium Travel Experience
In addition to launching new routes, American Airlines has revamped its premium travel experience on international flights. The new Philadelphia-Copenhagen service features Boeing 787-9 aircraft equipped with 255 seats in the Main Cabin, including 21 Premium Economy seats offering extra legroom and width. The Flagship business-class cabin includes 30 lie-flat seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, with upgraded amenities such as a 15.4-inch movie screen and Bang & Olufsen headphones.
American Airlines Flight 744 departs Philadelphia daily at 9:35 p.m., arriving in Copenhagen at 11:10 a.m. the following day. Conversely, Flight 745 departs Copenhagen at 2 p.m., landing in Philadelphia at 4:25 p.m. The new schedule offers travelers a balanced flight experience, breaking the journey into manageable segments.
Upgraded Business-Class Offerings
As American Airlines prepares to introduce its new Flagship Suite seats on Boeing 787-9s, Boeing 777-300s, and Airbus A321XLRs, the airline has already enhanced its first, business, and premium-economy offerings. International travelers are now receiving amenity kits featuring rotating Thirteen Lune skincare products, designed by Black and Brown founders. Additionally, new dual-sided pillows provide cooling comfort, and the bedding is now packed in reusable, eco-friendly pouches, reducing plastic waste by approximately 25 tons annually.
Business-class travelers on international flights are also enjoying new menu items such as salmon with red curry sauce, chicken with mojo verde, and macadamia-crusted sea bass. The revamped dining experience, along with the option to preorder meals, ensures that passengers have a memorable and comfortable journey.
American Airlines’ latest additions and upgrades highlight its commitment to enhancing the travel experience, making its new Philadelphia to Copenhagen route an exciting option for travelers seeking a blend of comfort and connectivity.
