Viking Sets Sail in China Again?
Viking is once again setting sail in China with the Viking Yi Dun, which recently completed its inaugural voyage from Shanghai to Hong Kong (Shenzhen). This new offering includes unique itineraries along China’s coast, showcasing lesser-known ports accessible only to Viking.
Operating from September to November, these itineraries on the 930-guest Viking Yi Dun—formerly known as the Viking Sun—are designed to highlight the country’s rich culture and history. “China is a phenomenal destination that many curious travelers have yet to experience,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “For 15 years, we introduced guests to China on our Yangtze River itineraries. Now, we are proud to offer these exclusive domestic sailings and look forward to welcoming travelers to this part of the world in the Viking way.”
Looking ahead, Viking plans to expand its Asia program in 2025, adding new itineraries that will include Japan. The Viking Yi Dun, a sister ship in Viking’s award-winning ocean fleet, features all veranda staterooms, Scandinavian design, and light-filled public spaces, along with ample outdoor dining options. This return to China not only enriches Viking’s offerings but also invites travelers to explore the country’s hidden gems.
