Cathay Pacific is set to enhance its North American route network by launching a new direct service from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW) in Texas. This new route, commencing on April 24, 2025, marks the first-ever direct connection between these two cities by Hong Kong’s flagship carrier.

The Dallas-Fort Worth route will be Cathay Pacific’s sixth passenger destination in the United States and eighth in North America. The airline aims to strengthen its presence on the continent while boosting global connectivity through its Hong Kong hub. According to the airline, this addition underscores its commitment to expanding international travel options for its customers.

Operating four times weekly, the new service will cover a distance of 8,123 miles (12,996 kilometers). Flights will depart Hong Kong on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with flight number CX898 leaving at 16:05 local time and arriving in Dallas at 17:55 the same day. The return flight, CX897, will take off from Dallas at 23:55, landing in Hong Kong two days later at 05:05.

All flights will be operated using Cathay Pacific’s fleet of Airbus A350-1000 long-range aircraft, which feature a three-class layout accommodating 334 passengers—46 in business class, 32 in premium economy, and 256 in economy. The launch of this route is subject to regulatory approval.

Lavinia Lau, Cathay Group Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, stated, “With our unique position of having deep roots in Hong Kong, being proudly part of China, and connecting the world, Cathay continues to build Hong Kong as a leading international aviation hub that connects people to exciting destinations.”

DFW is one of the busiest airports globally, and this new route will enhance connectivity for Cathay Pacific customers. Lau added that the airline’s codeshare agreements and other flight options will enable travelers to connect to over 190 domestic destinations in the U.S., along with 11 destinations in Central and South America, thereby strengthening Hong Kong’s connectivity with North America and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Currently, Cathay Pacific operates 88 return flights weekly to eight North American destinations, including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver. The airline began serving the North American market in 1983 with its first non-stop service to Vancouver.

In addition to the new Dallas service, Cathay Pacific plans to increase frequencies on existing routes throughout 2025. By May 2025, the airline will operate 108 return flights per week, including three daily return flights to New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, as well as daily flights to Boston and Chicago. The airline will also boost its services to Canada, offering two daily return flights to Vancouver and 13 return flights per week to Toronto.

Furthermore, Cathay Pacific’s new passenger service to Dallas will complement its Cathay Cargo division’s existing freighter services to the city, currently operated via Anchorage, Alaska. To meet growing demand during the air cargo peak season, Cathay Cargo will add five additional return freighter flights per week to North America starting in September 2024, bringing the total to 37 return freighter flights weekly.
