As the autumn season unfolds and the leaves begin to change, international airlines are gearing up for next summer’s travel plans. This year, American Airlines announced the addition of five transatlantic routes, and Delta Air Lines has followed suit with an ambitious expansion, unveiling seven new routes, including its first destination in Sicily, Catania. This move reflects Delta’s commitment to enhancing its summer schedule, which is set to be the largest in the airline’s history, featuring 700 weekly flights.

Delta’s New European Routes for Summer 2025

The demand for travel to Europe has remained strong, with record numbers of travelers reported this summer. Despite some resident pushback against tourist influx, airlines like Delta are betting on continued interest in exploring Europe’s diverse offerings. With four of its new routes directed toward Italy, Delta is positioning itself as the largest U.S. carrier in the Italian market.

The new routes set to launch for summer 2025 include:

  • Atlanta (ATL) to Brussels, Belgium (BRU): June 10 to October 23
  • Atlanta (ATL) to Naples, Italy (NAP): May 23 to October 24
  • Boston (BOS) to Barcelona, Spain (BCN): May 22 to October 23
  • Boston (BOS) to Milan, Italy (MXP): May 23 to October 24
  • Detroit (DTW) to Dublin, Ireland (DUB): May 7 to October 5
  • Minneapolis–St. Paul (MSP) to Rome, Italy (FCO): May 23 to October 24
  • New York (JFK) to Catania, Italy (CTA): May 22 to October 24

Among these new routes, the direct service from New York to Catania marks a significant milestone for Delta, as it becomes the first U.S. airline to offer direct flights to this captivating Sicilian city. Known for its proximity to the active volcano Mt. Etna and rich historical backdrop built atop ancient lava flows, Catania has gained immense popularity, especially following its feature in the HBO series The White Lotus.

Catania serves as a gateway to explore Sicily’s stunning landscapes, ancient Greek and Roman ruins, and beautiful Ionian coast beaches. This addition further diversifies Delta’s Italian routes, which include established destinations like Rome and Milan.

Expanded Services to Established Destinations

In addition to new routes, Delta is expanding its services to popular European destinations, enhancing existing connections. Notable increases include:

  • Atlanta to Athens: Now with 11 weekly flights (up from eight in 2024)
  • Atlanta to Barcelona: Increasing to 10 weekly flights (up from seven in 2024)
  • Atlanta to Rome: Now at 17 weekly flights (up from 14 in 2024)
  • Atlanta to Zurich: Offering daily service (up from four times a week in 2024)
  • Detroit to Munich: Expanding to daily service (up from four times a week in 2024)

These enhancements reflect Delta’s commitment to providing travelers with more options and greater flexibility, making it easier for passengers to connect with their desired destinations in Europe.
