Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) will soon make history as the first airport in Australia to offer direct flights to Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX). China Southern Airlines has announced that this 11-hour direct service will commence on December 13, 2024, operating four times a week. Following an initial 10-week season, the frequency of these flights is expected to increase.

The flights will be operated on the Airbus A330, configured with 28 business class seats and 258 economy class seats. The flight schedule includes:

  • CZ5025: Departing Beijing Daxing at 01:05 local time, arriving in Sydney at 15:25 the same day.
  • CZ5026: Departing Sydney at 20:55 local time, arriving in Beijing Daxing at 05:15 local time the next day.

Greg Botham, Group Executive of Aviation Growth & Strategy at Sydney Airport, expressed pride in being the first Australian airport to offer flights to Beijing Daxing, stating, “This marks another step in our commitment to improving connectivity with mainland China.” He noted that as the market recovers, these new flights will provide much-needed capacity and reinforce Sydney’s position as the premier gateway for travel to and from China.

Currently, Air China is the only airline providing direct nonstop service between Sydney and Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK). PKX, which opened in September 2019, is the world’s largest single-building terminal and ranks as the sixth largest airport globally by area, covering 47 square kilometers.
