Norwegian Cruise Line Pledges $80,000 to Hurricane Relief Efforts
In response to the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Milton, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NCLH) has committed to donating a total of $80,000 to the American Red Cross to assist communities impacted by both Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene. NCLH had already contributed $30,000 to support victims of Hurricane Helene, which struck earlier this month, and is now matching up to $50,000 in public donations specifically for Hurricane Milton relief.
Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm, battering cities like Tampa, Fort Myers, and Orlando with 120 mph winds, torrential rains, and severe flooding. This devastation closely follows Hurricane Helene, which had similarly impacted Florida and other southern U.S. states along the Gulf Coast.
“For decades, Florida has been home to NCLH, and we feel deeply connected to this community,” said Harry Sommer, president and CEO of NCLH. “Seeing the devastation in our own backyard is heartbreaking. Through our Sail & Sustain program, we are dedicated to helping families rebuild their lives and regain hope.”
The American Red Cross has been actively responding to the back-to-back hurricanes, providing shelters, distributing food, and offering emergency supplies to impacted communities. Before Hurricane Milton hit, the organization sheltered over 83,000 people across safe locations, ensuring they could ride out the storm safely.
Anne McKeough, chief development officer at the American Red Cross, expressed gratitude for NCLH’s support, saying, “We’re thankful to Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings for standing with us to provide help and hope as communities begin to recover.”
Public donations to the Red Cross for Hurricane Milton relief will be matched by NCLH, up to $50,000. Those interested in supporting the recovery efforts can donate directly to the American Red Cross.
