Japanese low-cost carrier Zipair, a subsidiary of Japan Airlines Group, is expanding its U.S. presence by adding Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) as its fifth U.S. destination. Starting March 4, 2025, Zipair will operate a new route between Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) and Houston, with four weekly flights.

The 13-hour flight will cover a distance of 5,770 nautical miles (6,640 miles), marking Zipair’s longest route to date. The airline will use its fleet of Boeing 787-8 aircraft, configured with 290 seats, including 18 lie-flat seats, for the service.

Zipair chose Houston as a key U.S. destination due to Texas’ growing reputation as a business-friendly state. The airline noted that several major companies have relocated to Texas due to favorable tax and cost conditions.

Launched in 2020, Zipair currently operates flights between Tokyo Narita and other U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, and Honolulu. The airline also serves Vancouver in Canada and several Asian destinations, including Bangkok, Manila, Singapore, and Seoul Incheon.

With plans to grow its fleet to 20 aircraft by 2030, Zipair is focused on expanding its international route network, particularly in the U.S. and Asia, offering budget-friendly, long-haul travel options.

The new Tokyo-Houston service strengthens Zipair’s transpacific offerings, providing a convenient option for both business and leisure travelers between Japan and the Lone Star State.
