Oman Airports Expands into CIS, Boosts European Routes

Oman Airports is strategically expanding its presence in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and enhancing its route frequency and destinations across Europe. This move is part of its broader goal to strengthen global connectivity. Operating Muscat International Airport (MCT), Salalah Airport (SLL), Duqm Airport, and Sohar Airport, the state-owned group has witnessed a significant increase in traffic, with passenger numbers reaching 8.5 million in the first seven months of the year, a 9.2% rise from the previous year.

The growth trajectory at Muscat International Airport is evident with the addition of five new airlines recently, and plans are in place to welcome more. The airport celebrated the launch of several new routes, including Air India Express from New Delhi and Pakistan International Airlines from Faisalabad. Additionally, SalamAir introduced flights from MCT to Bengaluru and Islamabad, while Oman Air is set to resume seasonal services to Zurich, Male, and Moscow Sheremetyevo in the upcoming winter season.

Salalah Airport is also experiencing notable developments, with new flights to Baghdad by SalamAir and resumed seasonal flights from Kuwait City by Kuwait Airlines. Turkish Airlines has expressed intentions to start services to Salalah as well.

Oman Airports is not only focusing on expanding its existing network but also actively pursuing new markets, especially in the CIS and Europe. The organization continually updates its business cases to meet airline needs and participates in industry conferences and B2B meetings to promote Oman’s market potential.

Further exemplifying its efforts to enhance international connections, Oman Airports signed a memorandum of understanding with Warsaw Chopin Airport in Poland earlier this year, aimed at increasing both commercial and private flights between the two nations and exploring new growth opportunities.

With a long-term vision to expand its capacity at MCT from the current 20 million to 56 million passengers annually, Oman Airports is poised for substantial growth and increased international influence in the aviation sector.
