Airline and Airport News: Air Canada, American Airlines and Etihad Airways

American Airlines has launched its first direct service from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Brisbane Airport (BNE), making Brisbane its second Australian destination. Initially set to operate five times weekly on Boeing 787-9 aircraft, the service will increase to daily in December, aligning with peak travel season. This new route is supported by Queensland’s A$200 million ($132 million) Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, and is expected to strengthen ties between Texas and Queensland.

Etihad Airways has introduced Airbus A350-1000 service on its Abu Dhabi to Toronto route, replacing the previous Boeing 777-300ER. Additionally, starting November 1, Etihad will expand its Boston service to daily, just six months after its debut. These updates contribute to Etihad’s 42 weekly flights to North America, covering New York, Chicago, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.

Air Canada has commenced its Calgary-London Heathrow-New Delhi route, set to operate daily on Boeing 787 aircraft through March 2029. This new route underscores Air Canada’s commitment to connecting major global hubs.

Universal Air’s winter schedule for 2024-25 includes increased flights between Malta and Tripoli, Libya, operating thrice weekly, with additional connections to Palermo, Italy; Nice, France; and Pécs, Hungary. Seasonal leisure routes to destinations like Salerno, Ibiza, and Corfu will pause for winter, resuming summer 2025.

Finally, Vietjet has introduced its 12th direct Vietnam-South Korea route, connecting Nha Trang to Daegu with daily flights. South Korea remains Vietnam’s largest international tourism market, driving significant inbound travel.
