Air India Express to Expand Fleet to 110 Aircraft by 2025

Air India Express (IX) is set to expand its fleet to 110 aircraft by March 31, 2025, according to CEO Aloke Singh. The carrier will receive all A320-200s from its parent airline, Air India (AI), as part of its fleet growth plans. Both Air India and Air India Express are owned by the Tata Sons conglomerate.

Singh explained that the expansion would help mitigate delays in the delivery of Boeing aircraft, which have been affected by recent industrial action. While the carrier has faced slower deliveries of its B737 MAX planes, the A320s supplied by Air India will ensure that Air India Express can continue with its fleet and network expansion without disruption.

Currently, Air India Express operates a fleet of 91 aircraft, including twenty-five A320-200s, five A320-200Ns, thirty-five B737-8s, and twenty-six B737-800s. The airline also has significant orders in place, including 105 B737-8s and fifty B737-10s. Despite the delay in Boeing deliveries, Singh emphasized that the airline’s growth plans would proceed on schedule.

With the expanded fleet, Air India Express aims to increase its passenger traffic by over 50% in the next few years. The airline plans to achieve this through the launch of new routes, additional destinations, and an overall larger fleet. By the end of March 2025, Air India Express aims to operate flights to 55 destinations, up from 48 currently, including new international routes alongside expanded domestic services.
