Thai Airways is set to welcome two additional Airbus A330 aircraft by December 2024, with plans to introduce a new two-tier Business Class product. This announcement was made by Thai Airways CEO Chai Eamsiri in an exclusive interview during the 68th Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) Assembly of Presidents in Brunei.

Expanded Routes with New A330s

The new Airbus A330 aircraft will support Thai Airways’ expanding route network. One aircraft will enter service by December 2024, while the second will join the fleet in 2025. The arrival of these aircraft aligns with the carrier’s strategy to enhance its operations and increase flight frequencies. Notably, Thai Airways will resume its daily service between Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Brussels Airport (BRU). In 2025, the airline also plans to boost services to major Chinese cities, including 11 weekly flights to Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and 10 weekly flights to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK).

Refurbished Fleet and New Premium Class Product

Thai Airways is undertaking a comprehensive refurbishment of its widebody fleet to introduce new premium class products. The refurbishment will include 14 Boeing 777-300ERs and 30 new Boeing 787s, all of which will be equipped with modern passenger seats. The updated cabins will feature three classes: two types of Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy.

Starting in 2027, Thai Airways will retrofit its B777-300ER fleet, with the process expected to take approximately two years. According to Eamsiri, the decision to reduce the number of classes to three was made to streamline operations, as the variety of seating configurations in the aircraft was becoming challenging. “We decided to just keep three classes,” he confirmed.

New Two-Tier Business Class with Enhanced Features

The new Business Class will have two subclasses, with the front row offering a more spacious and luxurious experience. “The front row Business Class will feel almost like First Class,” Eamsiri explained. These seats will feature privacy doors, ensuring a more secluded and comfortable experience for passengers. Additionally, the front row seats will include an ottoman that can convert into a private dining or meeting table for up to four people, providing added flexibility for business travelers.

Eamsiri emphasized that the front row Business Class would replace First Class, making it the highest fare in the cabin. This change reflects the growing demand for Premium Economy and a simplified cabin structure that enhances operational efficiency.

Upgraded In-Flight Entertainment

In terms of in-flight entertainment (IFE), Thai Airways will upgrade its Business Class monitors to 24 inches, offering passengers a more immersive viewing experience. Premium Economy passengers will enjoy 13-inch screens, while Economy Class will have 6-inch monitors, ensuring a tailored experience for each class.

With the addition of new A330 aircraft, an upgraded fleet, and an enhanced premium product, Thai Airways is positioning itself for significant growth and improved passenger satisfaction as it continues to modernize its offerings and expand its network.
