Tulpar Air Adds Challenger 850 Amid Russian Sanctions

Russia’s Tulpar Air has expanded its fleet with the addition of a Bombardier Challenger 850, marking its first foreign import since Western sanctions were imposed in 2022. The aircraft, now registered as RA-73633, was delivered from Muscat to Moscow Vnukovo on October 18, 2024, and began operations on October 23, with its first flight to Novosibirsk.

Previously registered as UP-C6003 under Kazakhstan’s Fly Jet KZ, the 16-year-old Challenger 850 primarily operated within Russia despite being on the Kazakh registry. Its final flight for Fly Jet KZ occurred in September, after which it was transferred to Tulpar Air.

Tulpar Air, headquartered at Kazan International Airport, is owned by the TAIF investment group. Its current fleet includes another Challenger 850, a Challenger 300, an inactive Challenger 350, two Global 5000s, and a Global 6000. Earlier in 2024, the carrier also added a Global 5000, RA-73545, which was already based in Russia under Tarp Airlines.

Tulpar Air operates independently of Tulpar Airlines, another Russian operator that also fields Challenger and Global series jets. This acquisition reflects Tulpar Air’s efforts to maintain operations and expand its fleet despite international restrictions, catering to regional and business aviation needs within Russia.

The Challenger 850’s addition underscores Tulpar Air’s strategy to navigate sanctions by leveraging regional partnerships and sourcing aircraft from neighboring markets like Kazakhstan.
