BeOnd Airlines Eyes Gulf Expansion with New AOC
BeOnd Airlines (B4) is set to broaden its horizons by seeking a second Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) in one of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the company announced recently. This strategic move aims to enhance BeOnd’s network and deliver its renowned luxury travel experience to a wider audience, marking a significant step in the airline’s ambitious growth plan.
Strategic Expansion into the GCC
The new AOC will likely be pursued in Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to Tero Taskila, co-founder and CEO of BeOnd. Establishing an AOC in these key GCC nations will enable BeOnd to tap into lucrative markets such as Neom Bay and Al Ula International in Saudi Arabia. These destinations are closely aligned with BeOnd’s current focus on the Maldivian premium leisure market, offering complementary opportunities for expansion and diversification.
Timeline and Regulatory Process
In a recent online media conference, Taskila outlined that securing the new AOC is expected to take between 18 to 36 months. This timeline allows BeOnd to meticulously navigate the regulatory requirements and ensure a seamless integration into the new market. The acquisition of a second AOC is a critical component of BeOnd’s strategy to double its fleet size and extend its operational footprint across the Middle East.
Financial Backing and Future Plans
To support this expansion, BeOnd has successfully raised USD60 million, with its Series A funding round anticipated to close by the end of 2024. These funds will be allocated towards increasing the fleet, expanding operations into new markets, and launching the airline’s “next generation customer experience” in 2025. This substantial investment underscores BeOnd’s commitment to delivering top-tier luxury travel while scaling its operations to meet growing demand.
Fleet Expansion and Modernization
Currently, BeOnd’s fleet consists of one Airbus A319-100, accommodating 44 passengers in a single-class configuration, and an Airbus A321-200, which seats 68 passengers. The airline has ambitious plans to expand its fleet to 27 aircraft by 2028, with four new airframes scheduled to arrive in 2025. This fleet growth will enable BeOnd to enhance its service offerings and increase its capacity to cater to a broader clientele.
Enhancing Luxury Travel Experience
BeOnd is dedicated to providing an unparalleled luxury travel experience. The planned fleet expansion will include state-of-the-art aircraft equipped with the latest amenities to ensure comfort, safety, and convenience for passengers. The introduction of additional aircraft will also allow BeOnd to offer more frequent and diverse flight options, catering to both leisure and business travelers seeking premium services.
Diversifying Services with Charter Operations
In addition to its scheduled flights, BeOnd has launched a charter business segment, catering to celebrities and sports teams. While this segment is not the primary focus, it highlights the airline’s versatility and ability to meet specialized travel needs. The demand for luxury charter services remains strong, and BeOnd is well-positioned to capitalize on this market segment alongside its regular operations.
