Aircalin to Boost Australia Flights Starting Q2 2025
Aircalin (SB, Nouméa La Tontouta) is set to increase its flights to Nouméa from Australia’s east coast during the 2025 Southern Hemisphere winter, targeting peak school holiday periods from April to October. The move aims to capitalize on strong holiday traffic after a challenging 2024 high season marked by civil unrest and curfews in New Caledonia, which significantly reduced travel demand and forced flight cuts.
With curfews now lifted, Aircalin and local tourism authorities are optimistic about a recovery. “The lifting of the curfew signifies a return to normalcy,” said Chris Thistlethwaite, Aircalin’s Australia and New Zealand country manager.
In 2024, Aircalin suspended its Melbourne route and reduced Brisbane and Sydney services from thrice-weekly to twice-weekly. Starting in 2025, the airline plans to restore services to three flights per week from both Sydney and Brisbane, making Nouméa more accessible. These additional flights will be complemented by codeshare partner services, enhancing connectivity for travelers.
Aircalin has not announced a timeline for resuming Melbourne flights but continues to expand its network. On December 11, 2024, the airline will launch twice-weekly flights to Paris CDG via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, a milestone marking its first foray into scheduled services west of Southeast Asia. The 26-hour journey will utilize one of Aircalin’s A330-900neo aircraft.
This strategic expansion reflects Aircalin’s commitment to rebuilding tourism and offering greater accessibility to New Caledonia.
