A Lagos court has lifted a bench warrant issued against Ahmed Kuru, the former managing director of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), after he appeared in court on December 13, 2024. Kuru, along with four other individuals, faces six charges, including stealing property worth NGN 4.9 billion (USD 3.2 million) from Arik Air (W3, Lagos) and abuse of office. These charges were brought against him by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The bench warrant was initially issued on December 3, 2024, after Kuru failed to attend court proceedings. However, after his appearance on December 13 and with assurances from his lawyer regarding his future attendance, the court revoked the warrant.

The case has now been adjourned until January 20, 2025, for further proceedings. Kuru’s legal team has expressed their intention to address the charges, while the EFCC continues to pursue its case against the accused individuals.

The charges brought against Kuru are part of ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to tackle corruption and financial crimes in both public and private sectors. The outcome of the case is expected to have significant implications for the corporate governance practices of Nigerian organizations.
