United Airlines Launches First-Ever Denver to Rome Route
United Airlines is set to expand its operations significantly at Denver International Airport (DEN), introducing eight new routes, including a notable seasonal nonstop service to Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) starting May 1, 2025. This marks the first direct link between Colorado and the Italian capital, enhancing Denver’s connectivity with Europe. The Rome route will be serviced by a Boeing 787-9 and will operate daily through September 24, 2025.
This expansion not only strengthens United’s presence in Denver, where it is already the largest carrier, but also adds diverse destinations across North America. The new routes include Buffalo, New York (BUF); Pensacola, Florida (PNS); Peoria, Illinois (PIA); North Bend, Oregon (OTH); Redding, California (RDD); Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM); and Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada (YQR). These additions bring United’s total from Denver to 160 domestic destinations and 20 international ones.
Denver International Airport, recognized as one of the world’s top 10 busiest airports with nearly 78 million passengers in 2023, has traditionally seen limited long-haul service despite its heavy traffic. United’s current long-haul flights from Denver connect to major cities like London-Heathrow (LHR), Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC), and Tokyo-Narita (NRT).
The expansion by United is complemented by services from its Star Alliance partner Lufthansa, which operates flights to Denver from Frankfurt and Munich. Other international carriers serving Denver include British Airways, Air France, Aer Lingus, Edelweiss Air, Icelandair, and Turkish Airlines, which recently launched a service to Istanbul (IST).
This strategic expansion by United Airlines underscores its commitment to enhancing global connectivity from its Denver hub and supporting the region’s status as a gateway to the Rocky Mountains and beyond.
