SPARFELL Aviation Expands Fleet with New Aircraft in 2025

SPARFELL Aviation Group is poised for significant fleet expansion in 2025, with three new aircraft set for delivery in the first half of the year. Managing Director Bernhard Wipfler shared the details with ch-aviation, also revealing plans to explore the possibility of acquiring an additional Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) within the next two years.
The first addition to the fleet will be a Gulfstream Aerospace G500, which is expected to arrive in January 2025. This will be the first G500 in SPARFELL Luftfahrt’s fleet, though SPARFELL Malta already operates a unit of the type. The aircraft will be registered in Austria, marking a significant step for the company’s fleet expansion. Following this, SPARFELL will welcome two Bombardier aircraft, with one confirmed to be registered in Austria and the other likely to be registered in Malta under SPARFELL Malta’s AOC.
In addition to these new aircraft, SPARFELL is also working on bringing its Airbus ACJ319-100, OE-LJC (msn 1556), back into operation by Summer 2025. The aircraft is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment and maintenance in Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg. Wipfler expressed optimism about the VIP-configured airliner’s potential, emphasizing the growing market demand for such aircraft available for charter.
While SPARFELL is not actively pursuing non-VIP airliner charters for group and sports travel, Wipfler mentioned the company would accommodate such requests if needed. However, he emphasized that SPARFELL is not focusing on expanding into this segment.
Currently, SPARFELL operates a diverse fleet of 17 aircraft in Austria, including an ACJ319-100, multiple Challenger and Citation jets, a Falcon 7X, a G280, a G650ER, and two Global 7500s, among others. The company recently retired its Challenger 3500 from the Austrian fleet. SPARFELL Malta operates a smaller fleet, including ultra-long-range jets such as a GVII-G500, Global 6000, Global 6500, and a newly inducted Global 7500. The company is also seeing a growing demand for aircraft management in Malta, which could lead to further fleet expansion in the region.
Looking ahead, Wipfler noted the potential for acquiring an additional AOC, acknowledging the bureaucratic and financial challenges but highlighting the operational flexibility and synergies such an expansion could offer. SPARFELL’s relationship with Austrian authorities, as well as the support from civil aviation authorities in Austria, Malta, and San Marino, has been a crucial factor in the company’s growth and fleet expansion.
Reflecting on the 2024 charter market, Wipfler observed that the market remained stable but less robust than in previous years. While major events like the Euro 2024 football tournament and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris had limited impact on SPARFELL’s operations, the company focused on its core market and avoided expanding into the light jet category. Wipfler emphasized that while SPARFELL remains open to discussions on smaller aircraft management, the priority remains with its current fleet of larger, high-end jets.
As SPARFELL continues to expand its fleet and services, the company remains committed to maintaining high standards of safety and customer service, positioning itself for growth in the competitive aircraft charter market.
