Avianca is significantly boosting its connections between South America and Florida, introducing several key routes. Notably, it’s launching a direct route from Tampa to Bogota, marking Tampa’s first direct connection to South America in nearly half a century. Additional routes include Fort Lauderdale to Medellin and Managua, and Miami to San José and Guatemala City, increasing Avianca’s total to 16 South American routes to Florida. Avianca CEO Frederico Pedreira emphasized that these expansions are tailored to meet customer demands and strengthen the airline’s presence in both regions.
Germany’s Condor is set to introduce a new international route during the summer of 2025, with a twice-weekly service from Frankfurt to Panama City starting June 11, utilizing Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. This development follows Condor’s decision to cancel routes from Frankfurt to several North American destinations, including Baltimore, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Phoenix, San Antonio, Edmonton, and Halifax. This move was influenced by a German Federal Court of Justice ruling which affected the airline’s operational agreements with Lufthansa. Additionally, Condor announced the cessation of its service to Cuba from late April 2025.
Royal Air Maroc is expanding its domestic network by launching a new route between Rabat and Dakhla, starting January 15 with two weekly flights. This route is launched in collaboration with the Dakhla Oued-Eddahab region to enhance air connectivity, with a capped economy fare of 2000 DH ($198).
Air Arabia has added a new route from Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with weekly flights on Fridays using Airbus A320 aircraft. This addition brings Air Arabia’s offerings from Ras Al Khaimah to eight destinations, including Cairo, various cities in Pakistan, Jeddah, Calicut, and Moscow. Air Arabia also operates flights to Tashkent from Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s Azul Linhas Aéreas is responding to a surge in demand for flights between Brazil and Portugal by wet-leasing a Boeing 777-200 aircraft from EuroAtlantic Airways. This aircraft now serves the Sao Paulo Viracopos to Lisbon route, with potential plans to expand the fleet in 2025 according to EuroAtlantic.
These route updates reflect the dynamic nature of global airline operations, as carriers adjust to market demands, regulatory changes, and strategic opportunities to optimize their route networks and improve connectivity across continents.
