Qatar Executive Expands Fleet with Two New Gulfstream G700s
On January 6, 2025, Gulfstream Aerospace announced the delivery of two more G700 aircraft to Qatar Executive, the private aviation division of Qatar Airways. This brings Qatar Executive’s total fleet of G700s to six, with an additional four expected to join soon. The latest deliveries highlight the rapid expansion of Qatar Executive’s capabilities with Gulfstream’s top-of-the-line private jet, further cementing its position as a leader in luxury private aviation.
Mark Burns, president of Gulfstream, praised the team’s efficiency in delivering the aircraft, stating, “The unprecedented speed with which the team has been able to deliver this remarkable aircraft is a true testament to the quality and maturity of the G700 program.”
The G700’s arrival builds on the success of Qatar Executive’s first two G700s, which were delivered in May 2024. The airline was the first to offer the G700 as a charter aircraft, and although Qatar Executive has not publicly disclosed the level of demand, it has previously noted high interest in the model.
The Game-Changing Gulfstream G700
The Gulfstream G700 is an evolution of the highly successful G650, with a three-meter longer fuselage that allows for up to five distinct cabin areas. The aircraft boasts more efficient Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines, increasing fuel efficiency by 2-3% and offering an impressive range of 7,500 nautical miles. At the 2023 Paris Air Show, Akbar Al Baker, then CEO of Qatar Airways, described the G700 as the “pinnacle of business jet travel,” praising its technological advancements, cabin configurability, and environmental performance.
The G700’s cabin features bespoke designs tailored to Qatar Executive’s standards, including a private rear stateroom with a fixed double bed and en-suite bathroom. The aircraft is equipped with the lowest cabin altitude in the industry and ensures 100% fresh air replenished every two minutes. Additionally, the newly developed lighting system mimics circadian rhythms to enhance passenger comfort during long-haul flights.
Overcoming Challenges in G700 Rollout
Despite its impressive capabilities, the G700’s introduction has faced challenges, primarily related to supply chain disruptions. Gulfstream had initially targeted the delivery of 50 to 52 G700 units in 2024 but had to adjust its projections due to delays, including late delivery of the Pearl 700 engines. By the end of September 2024, only four units had been delivered, far short of the original target.
The intricacies involved in customizing each G700’s interior also led to longer-than-expected certification processes. However, Gulfstream’s revised delivery target for 2024 was 42 units. The full-year earnings report, expected in the coming weeks, will provide a clearer picture of whether this goal was met.
A Stellar Performance Record
Since its launch, the G700 has set multiple speed records, including a flight from Los Angeles to Sydney in just 14 hours and 26 minutes. In total, the aircraft has broken more than 65 city-pair records, showcasing both its speed and range capabilities.
With Gulfstream continuing to work through supply chain issues, the G700’s long-term success looks promising as more units are delivered and demand for luxury private aviation grows. Qatar Executive’s fleet expansion with these state-of-the-art jets ensures the airline remains at the forefront of private aviation in terms of both luxury and performance.
