The inaugural European Tourism Seasonality Summit is set to take place on April 7, 2025, in the vibrant city of Seville, bringing together industry leaders to tackle the persistent challenges of seasonality in European tourism. Organized in partnership with Routes and Low Season Traveller, the summit aims to foster sustainable growth and balance in the travel sector, which is projected to contribute over $16 trillion to Europe’s GDP and support more than 449 million jobs by 2034, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).

Seasonality has long been a critical issue in European tourism, leading to peaks and troughs that can strain local communities and infrastructure during high seasons while leaving destinations underutilized in off-peak periods. The increasing demand for sustainable tourism practices has intensified efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of high-season travel and promote opportunities during off- and shoulder-seasons. The European Tourism Seasonality Summit seeks to address these issues by uniting experts from various sectors, including travel, leisure, destination management, technology, and hospitality.

Key topics to be discussed at the summit include strategies for European destinations to navigate tourism seasonality, the impact of post-pandemic shifts in traveler behavior, and the push for sustainability. Additionally, the role of technology, big data, and artificial intelligence in reshaping travel patterns and supporting low-season tourism will be a focal point. Innovative marketing campaigns and targeted strategies designed to change traveler perceptions of low seasons will also be explored, offering new avenues for promoting year-round tourism.

Ged Brown, CEO and Founder of Low Season Traveller, emphasized the significance of the summit, stating, “After the successful launch of our first Tourism Seasonality Summit in Bahrain last year, we are delighted to be bringing the event to Seville and Europe given the incredible seasonality challenges faced within the region. The event will see leaders from throughout Europe’s travel and tourism sector, meet up to share experiences, learn effective strategies, and engage in true collaboration to alleviate peak seasonality challenges.”

Brown further added, “We listened to the feedback from our delegates in Bahrain, and making this a standalone event but alongside Routes Europe will ensure that there is now an even greater opportunity for all parties to participate in the event.”

Steven Small, Director of Routes, highlighted the dual nature of seasonality in European tourism. “Seasonality significantly shapes European tourism, influencing its dynamics and opportunities. While seasonality poses significant challenges for European tourism, it also opens doors for innovation, sustainability, and enhanced experiences for tourists and local communities alike. The inaugural European edition of the Tourism Seasonality Summit will bring together industry leaders to outline strategies to flatten the curve, ensuring that the positive impact of tourism can be felt sustainably all year round.”

Small also noted the strategic timing of the summit, “With Routes Europe 2025 taking place the day after the Tourism Seasonality Summit, this is a fantastic opportunity for both the route development community and wider stakeholders impacted by seasonality to drive positive change.”

The summit will be held at the Fibes Conference and Exhibition Centre in Seville, Spain, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and dynamic tourism industry. Participants can expect a blend of keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive workshops designed to foster collaboration and innovation. The goal is to develop actionable strategies that can be implemented across Europe to create a more balanced and sustainable tourism landscape.

As the European Tourism Seasonality Summit approaches, anticipation grows for the valuable insights and solutions that will emerge from this gathering of experts. By addressing the root causes of seasonality and leveraging modern technologies and marketing techniques, the summit aims to transform European tourism into a more resilient and sustainable industry, benefiting both travelers and host communities alike.
