Big Tech Donates Millions to Trump’s Inauguration Fund
Google and Microsoft have each contributed $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration fund, joining other tech giants such as Apple, Meta, Amazon, and OpenAI in supporting the event.
Google will also livestream the January 20 swearing-in ceremony on YouTube and promote links to the event on its homepage. A Google spokesperson noted that the company has historically supported inauguration events, aligning this donation with past practices.
Microsoft confirmed its donation is double the $500,000 it contributed during Trump’s first inauguration, matching its donation to President Joe Biden’s inauguration fund, according to a statement provided to CNBC.
These contributions come as several of these companies, including Google’s parent Alphabet, Meta, Apple, and Amazon, face antitrust lawsuits from the federal government. Observers suggest these donations may be an effort to maintain favorable relations with the incoming administration, particularly given Trump’s track record of rewarding allies and penalizing adversaries.
The participation of Big Tech in the inauguration underscores the complex relationship between these companies and government officials, balancing public scrutiny, regulatory challenges, and business interests.
