Qatar Airways Resumes DOH-MLA Flights
Qatar Airways has announced the resumption of its flights between Doha’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Malta International Airport (MLA), reestablishing a vital link to the Mediterranean islands of Malta and Gozo. The new services, launching on July 2, 2025, will operate four times a week, extending the Gulf carrier’s European network to 50 destinations for the northern summer season.
Under the new schedule, Qatar Airways will operate flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. On Wednesdays and Fridays, flight QR381 departs Doha at 14:05 local time, arriving in Malta at 06:45 the following day. For the Monday and Saturday services, flight QR383 leaves Doha at 08:45, reaching Malta the same day at 13:25 local time. The return journeys also offer convenient timings: on Wednesdays and Fridays, flight QR382 departs Malta at 10:15, arriving back in Doha at 16:20, while on Mondays and Saturdays, flight QR384 leaves Malta at 17:05, landing in Doha at 23:10. Covering a sector length of 2,314 miles (3,702 km), these flights provide a direct connection that is expected to attract leisure travelers and further boost tourism in the Mediterranean region.
In a statement, Qatar Airways highlighted that the reactivated route is especially attractive for customers from China, India, Japan, and the Philippines who are eager to explore the deep blue Mediterranean. The airline invites travelers to plan their summer holidays via Hamad International Airport—recently voted the World’s Best Airport by Skytrax in 2024—en route to Malta, where they can visit UNESCO World Heritage Site Valletta and discover the neighboring islands of Gozo and Comino. This enhanced connectivity is set to not only enrich Qatar Airways’ passenger experience but also stimulate economic activity across the Mediterranean.
The resumption of flights also serves as a gateway for Maltese travelers. With Qatar Airways’ extensive network spanning more than 170 global destinations, including 42 weekly flights to Australia, residents of Malta will have increased travel opportunities. In addition, the airline’s proposed partnership with Virgin Australia, which is pending final regulatory approval, is expected to further enhance connectivity between the regions.
Qatar Airways Group CEO Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer commented on the reactivation of the Malta route: “Qatar is delighted to announce the resumption of our flights to Malta, which marks a vibrant addition to our robust European network. Qatar and Malta enjoy staunch economic ties, and our operational relaunch to the country only furthers our relationship.” He emphasized that the airline continues to provide its global community of adventurers and leisure travelers with exciting new destinations to explore. “From historic and cultural sites and attractions, sun and sea activities, to cities that have served as locations for Hollywood movies and TV shows, Malta offers an exciting blend of memorable experiences for travelers—all set against the backdrop of the azure Mediterranean Sea,” he added.
Industry observers expect that reconnecting Malta with Doha through Qatar Airways will have significant positive implications for tourism and the broader travel market in the Mediterranean region. By offering a seamless connection from key global markets via its world-class hub in Doha, Qatar Airways is well-positioned to boost tourist numbers and stimulate economic activity across the region, making it an appealing option for both international holidaymakers and business travelers. Booking for these newly resumed services is already open, promising a busy summer season for the celebrated Gulf carrier.
