Solomon Airlines will commence weekly flights on the Auckland-Brisbane route starting February 21, 2025, using an Airbus A320-200. This marks the airline’s first operation between New Zealand and Australia, enhancing regional connectivity.

According to Commercial Manager John Wopereis, the new service will cater to point-to-point travelers between Auckland and Brisbane while also connecting passengers with Solomon Airlines’ Brisbane-Munda and Brisbane-Honiara flights. “This route is part of our expanded international schedule designed to improve regional connectivity and operational efficiency,” he said.

The Auckland-Brisbane route is highly competitive, with Qantas, Jetstar Airways, Air New Zealand, and China Airlines collectively operating 49 weekly roundtrips. Air New Zealand leads with 20 flights per week, followed by Qantas with 14, Jetstar with 10, and China Airlines with 5.

In addition to targeting point-to-point travelers, Solomon Airlines aims to attract Solomon Islanders working in Australia and New Zealand, as well as VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) and business and leisure passengers.

The airline currently serves Honiara, Port Vila, and Espiritu Santo directly from Brisbane. Its fleet of seven aircraft includes two A320-200s, four DHC-6-300s, and one DHC-8-100, supporting both domestic and international operations.

The new Auckland-Brisbane route underscores Solomon Airlines’ commitment to expanding its network and providing better travel options for regional passengers.
